Maharashtra crossed the 8000-mark on Sunday after 440 more people tested positive for coronavirus, out of which 358 cases were reported from Mumbai alone. “The number of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai now stands at 5,407 and the overall death toll at 204 with 12 more fatalities,” a health department official said. The Thane division, which consists of Mumbai City, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, has reported 19 new cases, taking the tally to 6,343 with 223 deaths.On the other hand, the number of cases in Pune division has gone up to 1,128 with 83 deaths.The state and the civic bodies have launched several measures to tackle the further spread of the virus, which in May is projected to be around 75,000 in Mumbai alone. The state government has decided to make Covid-19 tests and treatment in medical and dental colleges under the medical education department free.
